Best time to visit Jim Corbett: the quick answer
The best time to visit Jim Corbett for most people is November to June, when all the main zones are open and the forest rest houses take guests. Within that window, mid-November to February is cool and great for birds, and April to mid-June is hot but gives the best tiger sightings.
The monsoon (July to September) is quiet and very green, but most core zones close. Only a few zones stay open, and even they can shut after heavy rain.

Corbett seasons explained
Winter (November to February)
Days are sunny and pleasant, around 20–25°C, but mornings and nights are cold, sometimes near 5°C. Fog is common in December and January. Migratory birds arrive, the rest houses are open and the landscape is at its most photogenic. Tigers are seen, but the tall grass hides them more.
Summer (March to June)
Temperatures climb from about 30°C in March to nearly 40°C in May. Water dries up, grass is cut or burnt, and animals gather at rivers and waterholes. This is the peak season for tiger sightings, and also good for river rafting on the Kosi.
Monsoon (July to September)
Heavy rain turns the forest emerald. Roads can wash out and landslides are possible in the hills. Tiger sightings are rare in the thick cover, but prices drop and the zones that stay open are almost empty.
Post-monsoon (October)
The season restarts in mid-October. The forest is fresh, birds return and the weather is comfortable.

| Nov | Cool; ~10–27°C | Dhikala, Durga Devi, Sonanadi from ~15 Nov; all zones | FRH season starts, birding | Moderate |
| Dec | Cold; ~5–23°C, fog | All main zones | Winter birds, cosy stays | Very high (Christmas–New Year) |
A few patterns stand out. February and March are the sweet spot for many travellers: comfortable weather, every zone open, flowering trees such as the flame of the forest, and tigers becoming easier to find as the grass thins. November is the other favourite, when Dhikala reopens, the forest is still green after the rains and winter birds arrive.
April and May reward patience in the heat. Wear light cotton, carry water on every safari and keep afternoons free for rest. July to September suits people who want the forest to themselves and do not mind a lower chance of big cats.

Best time for tigers, birds, photography and families
- Tigers: April to mid-June. Book Dhikala or Bijrani and do several safaris.
- Birds: November to March, when winter migrants join over 500 resident species. Durga Devi and Dhela are excellent.
- Photography: February–March for soft light and fresh leaves; April–May for tigers in the open; November for mist over the Ramganga.
- Families: October–November and February–March. The weather is mild and safaris are comfortable for children.
- Budget travellers: the monsoon and weekdays in September and early October, when resorts cut rates.
If you want both birds and tigers in one trip, aim for late February to March. If you want the full forest-lodge experience, pick any time between mid-November and mid-June and book the Dhikala lodge the day the window opens.
Holiday rush: dates to book early (or avoid)
Corbett is close to Delhi, so holidays and long weekends fill it quickly. Safari permits open about 45 days ahead for Indian visitors and can sell out on the same day for these dates:
- Christmas to New Year (about 24 December to 2 January): the busiest week of the year. Resorts charge peak rates.
- Diwali week and the days around Dussehra.
- Holi, and school summer holidays in May and June.
- Long weekends such as Republic Day, Independence Day (only year-round zones open) and Good Friday.
If you can, travel midweek. Check safari timings for your month and plan your drive with our how to reach guide.
